Leading with Empathy and Accountability — A Story About Stephen Miller
The following is a leadership story shared by Jennifer Nazario, Senior Warehouse Manager, about her experience being led by Stephen Miller.
Working under Steve's leadership has been a positive experience within my career. Steve has always maintained an open-door policy and has consistently made time to listen, no matter how busy things were. That approach created an environment where I felt comfortable asking questions, seeking guidance, and having honest conversations.
What has stood out most is that Steve genuinely cares about the people he leads, not just the work they produce. There were times when I was dealing with personal challenges that had the potential to affect my performance at work. I never felt judged bringing those situations to him. Instead, he listened with empathy, took the time to understand what I was facing, and helped me refocus on what I could control. His support and perspective helped me get back on track while reinforcing that effective leadership is about investing in people as much as it is about achieving results.
I've also appreciated Steve's willingness to provide candid, constructive feedback. I've often asked for input on how I could continue to grow as a leader, and he has always taken the time to offer thoughtful advice that challenged me while encouraging my development. Rather than simply providing answers, Steve helped me see situations from different perspectives, allowing me to make better decisions and become a stronger leader.
Steve's calm demeanor, approachable leadership style, and genuine investment in developing his team have had a meaningful impact on me both professionally and personally. I am grateful for his mentorship and for the example he sets by leading with integrity, respect, and a sincere commitment to helping others succeed.
